Another GE Appliance Gone Awry or Washing Dishes For a Family of 5 Stinks!

If you've been keeping up with my posts then you know that not that long ago I had my GE Profile fridge replaced after 5 service calls in a year and a half. Well, now my GE Profile dishwasher that is not quite 3 yrs old has stopped working. I've reviewed all the trouble shooting guidelines and am still unable to get it to rinse the dishes. As a result of this, I have been hand washing dishes for a family of 5 for the past few days and it's exhausting. I've been trying to limit the dishes we use but really that's an impossible tasks. Between meals and snacks, we normally accumulated a dishwasher full of dishes every night, this now equates to a sink full of dishes and then some.

As past experience, I spent half the day trying to get a service call straightened out to have someone come out and look at my dishwasher, oh and while they're at it can you please repair the freezer door handle on my 2 month old fridge that keeps coming loose. GE is telling me that will be $125.00 just to come take a look. Are you kidding me! The fridge should be absolutely free since it's only 2 months old and honestly I've been having the problem for about a month. The dishwasher well, I clearly expect to pay something but $125 just to diagnose it, remember it's not quite 3 yrs old. If it turns out I need to replace it I clearly will not be buying another GE dishwasher, and for that matter, I will never again buy another GE appliance.

Garage to Art Studio

Contents out of garage...what will I do with it all?

Today with the help of a Ismael, a handy man, I've begun the conversion of our unattached garage into a working art studio. We pulled everything out of the garage and not quite sure what's going to happen with all that. That problem will have to be tackled soon. Truth be told a lot of those bins you see in that photo are filled with fabric that I've collected over the years (about 12 yrs worth). Ismael power washed the floors and walls which needed it desperately. We just got a new roof a few weeks ago, prior to this there were so many holes that rats and squirrels were coming in and making their mess in the garage. Now no more, it's soon to be spic and span clean. After power washing, Ismael began, priming the walls, caulking some holes, and repairing an area of dry rot. This is going to take a couple of days to complete. Next step will be to add a window and better lighting. Then it will be time to move in all my art and craft supplies, can't wait to have a working space of my own. I've been using the dining room table and it's just not working out anymore. With the kids curiosity, I have to put everything away to keep them from exploring through everything and there's always the danger of them hurting themselves on my tools. So much time is spent taking supplies in and out that I don't get to spend much time actually working on anything. Now with my own space I can leave projects out and work on them as time allows without losing time taking out and putting items away. I can also work on projects while the kids play in the yard. I'm hoping that sometime down the road we'll replace the garage door with french doors. For now I'm just happy that I'll have a space to work in soon!

Be Persistent

Sometimes it pays to be persistent. Like in motherhood, when you need to stand your ground when your child is continuing to badger and plead for some treat or toy, or maybe to stay up later. Today it wasn't a child, it was GE company I had to be persistent with. We have a stainless steel GE Profile fridge that I fell in love with when we bought it. It's the kind with the french doors and a full sized shelf inside so you can put something large in, like a full sheet cake, and a bottom freezer. The problem is soon after we got this fridge it began to have problems. In the first year we had 4 service calls. The 4th visit they replaced the control panel in it. Well it began to have problems again, so now on it's 5th service call, the service man replaced the control panel again. I let him go ahead and do this knowing as soon as he left I would be calling the customer relations department and demanding a new refrigerator. Five service calls in a year and half is unacceptable. So I called, and was persistent with my request, with a supervisor, then a manager, and another manager etc. etc. until I spoke to the right person. It only took me 2 hours (what a drag), not exactly how I wanted to spend my afternoon. The good news is that we will be receiving a new refrigerator, despite many attempts on GE's side to tell me that the only thing available to me was a discount on a new purchase. I refused to accept this. They almost had me beat. I was so frustrated and tired of having to explain the situation over and over to various GE staff that it would have been easy for me to say "forget it, it's been repaired". This time, persistence prevailed.
