Japanese Jammie Jams

In our household, pajamas have come to be known as "jammie jams". I'm not sure when or how this came to be, but every night we put on our "jammie jams". Last night, Miles and Liam put on their "japanese jammie jams" thanks to Uncle Jimmy and Auntie Conny who were kind enough to bring these back from their trip. These jammies are super soft and warm and have the cutest print. I have to say the japanese do fabric right....always great quality with the greatest prints.

"Just Because"

Aidan's latest saying is "Just Because"..and he seems to think it's the perfect response to everything. This may or may not be so cute.

Daddy: "Aidan why did grandma by you Neville (a new addition to his Thomas Train set)?"
Aidan: " Oh just because, I don't have Neville"
(hmmm maybe not so cute, sounds a bit entitled if you ask me)

Me: " Aidan why did you push Liam?"
Aidan: "Just because, he was in my way"
(definitely not so cute)

Grandma " Aidan why is that dinosaur called T-Rex?"
Aidan: "Just because...hmmm...his name starts with a T and ends with rex"
(awe, that was cute, brought a smile to all our faces)

Yesterday we went to a friends house who was having an "Iron Chef Cook Off" the challenge ingredient was pineapple". And "just because", I decided to forgo the itchy mouth and rashy neck (yes I have a food allergy to pineapple) I decided to bake a dessert without pineapple. I know it would have been fun to participate but I just couldn't bring myself to dealing with a pineapple. So I baked a spiced carrot cake and we also brought over one of my favorite bottles of cab adorned with a hostess gift, a handmade(not by me ofcourse) rainbow wood bottle stopper, everyone needs one of those, right? And because it was also Valentine's day, I hand stamped a little tag with my newest "V" Day stamp, this darling little gumball machine that has one heart shaped gumball in it. I had big plans for that stamp, unfortunately, this was the only use I got out of it because I just couldn't pull it together to do all those great craft projects I so wanted to do. Oh, and "just because" that bottle of cab is one of my faves (add sheepish smirk here) I think I may have consummed half of it myself...hence, the wallop of a headache I woke up with this morning.

Bunny Bunting - Being Crafty

With Spring and Easter on the way (I know Valentine's Day hasn't quite passed yet), I decided to start on some projects for my etsy shop and maybe some to keep around. Aidan was already mentioning what the Easter bunny might be bringing him, of course he's hoping for some trains to add to his collection. We'll just have to see. In the meantime I found this great vintage children's book full of bunny illustations that I just loved. I decided those bunnys would make great Easter decorations. So today I started to cut some paper.

Then with the use of my sewing machine, lots of glue, ink, vintage buttons and trims, I ended up with this. A sweet bunny bunting to hang just about anywhere. More to come.

How Time Flies...Valentine's On The Way

Where did the week go, I'm not really sure?? But I just realized it's been a week since I've posted. Time really flies when you're having fun...or is it when you're busy. Since kids, it seem like every moment of the day is taken. There are lots of chores to be done, laundry, baths etc but there's lots of fun times too that make it all worth it!

One of this weekends fun times was working on Miles and Liam's valentines for their little buddies. They played with stickers while mommy stamped and wrote out the cards. 32 valentines completed...whaalaaaa! Now time to move on to Aidan's.

Beautiful Day = Fun Outing

Initially we thought today would be a perfect day to go do a little shopping. Being Super Bowl Sunday we figured everyone would be busy celebrating the big day. Not that the shops are hustling with people these days, given the current economic climate, but it's just so much easier to get around with kids when you don't have to maneuver through crowds (yeah I know I'm stating the obvious). Well, we decided to ditch that idea and go do something fun with the kids, on such a gorgeous crisp day. So, we took the boys to the Steam Engines in Tilden Park, they were all pretty surprised. We then picked up lunch and a had a pseudo picnic in the sunshine at Dreamland followed with some play time.

I have to say I was really looking forward to doing some shopping but I'm really glad we opted for the outdoor fun. It's such a a great feeling as a parent to see my kids really enjoying themselves and hearing them squeal and laugh as they play. I really had to stop and ask myself "Why would I drag them through a busy shop to buy things we could all really do without?" Clearly the fun and laughter of outdoor activity outweighs the brief moment of pleasure of a new purchase, which is usually followed by buyers remorse. And lets not forget a healthier life style. I want to teach my children that life's pleasures are about enjoying the outdoors, physical activity, and nature, not consumerism and the need to have more, more, more.
